The play features Diane Pingle and Kevin Bry as modern narrators and actual historical figures speaking to the audience. Beginning with the Oak Park area's proud Native American heritage, "Our Village" traces the social and political history of Oak Park from the time Native Americans and the Kettlestrings (Oak Park 's first white settlers) populated the area through establishment of the village and its own government. These were the years when the world renown artists like Ernest Hemingway and Frank Lloyd Wright and their mothers Anna and Grace (members of the Nineteenth Century Club) called Oak Park home. Later came African-Americans and other minority villagers helping to create the vibrant and diverse community Oak Park is today.
