 Not many people know this, but in the 1870s and 1880s, America’s most popular spectator sport was competitive walking. Join author Matthew Algeo when he shares stories from “Pedestrianism: When Watching People Walk Was America’s Favorite Spectator Sport.” The Book Table will have books for sale and signing.

“Pedestrianism” is Alego’s fourth book. A previous book, “Harry Truman’s Excellent Adventure: The True Story of a Great American Road Trip,” was named one of the best books of 2009 by the "Washington Post."
