May Artist: Robert K. Elder: "Rockers, Writers & Filmmakers" (Ongoing Event)

Event Type: Art Gallery
Date: 5/2/2014 - 5/30/2014
Description:
Before Robert K. Elder became an author and editor at the Chicago Sun-Times, he cut his teeth as arts photographer in the 1990s. Slinging a Pentax K1000 camera with a broken light meter, Elder found himself photographing artists such as U2, Pearl Jam, Beck, Joan Baez, Garth Brooks, Marilyn Manson, Rage Against the Machine and Sarah McLachlan. The young photographer's odyssey led him to take portraits of writers such as Neil Gaiman, Ken Kesey, Studs Terkel and filmmaker Oliver Stone, who had just published his first novel.

See these photographs and more at the Oak Park Public Library Art Gallery, May 2 through 30, 2014. A reception for Robert K. Elder will be Monday, May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Art Gallery. The Art Gallery is open seven days a week during regular business hours.
Robert K. Elder is the vice president of digital content and editor-in-chief for Chicago Sun-Times Media Local, an Oak Park author and founder of Odd Hours Media, LLC.
