The Oak Park Public Library is proud to sponsor the 2014 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) film festival, highlighting some of the best in independent film making. Films run four consecutive Sundays in September and October, starting at 2 pm in the Main Library Veterans Room.Library: Oak Park Public Library Main Branch
Sept. 21 - "Zenne Dancer" (2012) 99 min. Turkey. Winner of the Antalya Golden Orange and Nuremberg film festivals, "Zenne Dancer" tells the story of a trio of gay men, whose different perspectives on gay culture in conservative Turkey tell a poignant and emotional story.
Sept. 28 - "Assume Nothing" (2009) 82 min. New Zealand. Many of us assume that there are only two genders and that being female or male follows from the sex of our biological bodies. Focusing on the art, photography and performances of four "alternative" gender artists Assume Nothing poses the questions: "What if "male" and "female" are not the only options?
Oct. 5 - "Three Veils" (2011) 117 min. U.S. Winner of the Arpa International Film Festival for Best Feature, "Three Veils" is the story of three young Middle-eastern women, each living in the U.S., each with their own stories that ultimately blend into each other, and reveal the connections between each woman.
Oct. 12 - "Heart Breaks Open," (2011) 81 min.U.S. Jesus, A model queer activist and advocate, discovers that he is HIV positive, forcing him to confront his innermost fears, including his relationship with his ex-boyfriend, and a future living with the virus.
