Casa Italia: Italian Women in Chicago

Event Type: Author Program
Date: 10/26/2014
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 5:00 PM
Meet editors and contributors of Casa Italia's newly published book, "Italian Women in Chicago: Madonna mis! QUI debbo vivere? (You mean I have to live HERE)?” published by the Italian Cultural Center at Casa Italia.

Editors Dominic Candeloro, Kathy Catrabone and Gloria Nardini will share stories from the book. The spotlight on Italians in Chicago has always been on the men. This anthology is a preliminary effort to “write” that wrong. Dominic Candeloro, lead editor, recruited almost 50 contributing authors, including attorney/author Theresa Amato of Oak Park.

This anthology is divided into two sections: “Chicago Italian Women in History” and “Chicago Italian Women in Essays, Fiction and Poetry." The first section includes women’s biographies and life stories. In the second section, readers learn how the re-discovered stories or memories of Italian American women act as a catalyst for creative works and the many ways these women’s lives inspire writers.
