September Exhibit: “Oak Parkers: A Portrait of a Village” (Ongoing Event)

Event Type: Art Gallery
Date: 9/3/2014 - 9/29/2014
“Oak Parkers: A Portrait of a Village”exhibit by Eileen Molony will be on display at the Oak Park Public Library Art Gallery from Sept. 2-29. “Oak Parkers” is a series of 52 images that capture who and what Oak Park is but could be Anywhere, USA, according to Molony, an Oak Park resident herself.

This series of portraits is intended to exemplify the spirit of a village, in this case the Village of Oak Park. They are neighbors, teachers, volunteers, artists, proprietors -- all those who together make a village. In a village, there are connections, seen and unseen, that help us all become more than individuals no matter what our accomplishments are. The main piece brings the connections of the 52 into view.

Through their diversity and interconnectedness with each other and the village, these residents are more than what they could ever be alone. This “Portrait of a Village” is also meant to encourage the observer to recognize and appreciate their own interconnections and to feel larger because of them.

A reception for Eileen Molony will be Sunday, Sept. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
